Answer:
Hello, everyone. My name is (your name ) and I am excited to be in this class. I have taken two classes before this one and I have learned some valuable time management skills that I hope to apply to this course. One of the skills I learned is to set SMART goals for each assignment: specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound. This helps me to break down the tasks into manageable steps and track my progress. Another skill I learned is to use a calendar and a planner to schedule my study time and prioritize my assignments. This helps me to avoid procrastination and stay on top of deadlines. I also learned to balance my workload with some self-care activities, such as exercise, meditation, and hobbies. This helps me to reduce stress and stay motivated. As for writing, I have mixed feelings about it. On one hand, I enjoy expressing my thoughts and opinions in writing and I think it is a useful skill for many situations. On the other hand, I sometimes struggle with grammar, punctuation, and organization and I worry about making mistakes or not meeting the expectations of the instructor or the audience. I hope that this class will help me to improve my writing skills and confidence. One place that has influenced me in a positive way is the library. Ever since I was a child, I loved going to the library and browsing through the shelves of books. The library was a place where I could escape from reality and immerse myself in different worlds and stories. I could smell the musty scent of old books and hear the soft whispers of other readers. I could touch the smooth covers and feel the weight of the pages. I could see the colorful illustrations and the neat rows of letters. I could taste the excitement and curiosity of learning something new or discovering a new perspective. The library was a place where I could expand my imagination and knowledge and develop my love for reading and writing. The library was a place where I felt happy and inspired.
This question is about time management skills and descriptive writing.
Explanation:In this assignment, you are asked to introduce yourself to the class and discuss how you plan to use your time management skills to complete your written assignments. Additionally, you are asked to write descriptively about a place that has influenced you in a positive way. Using the five senses, you should paint a clear picture of this place.
To complete your written assignments, efficient time management skills will be crucial. You can start by creating a schedule or a to-do list, prioritizing your tasks, and allocating specific blocks of time for each task. Breaking down the assignments into smaller, manageable tasks can help you stay organized and focused.
When it comes to writing, it's important to have a positive attitude and approach. Embrace the opportunity to improve your writing skills and express your thoughts creatively. To enhance your writing, you can read examples of well-written pieces, practice regularly, and seek feedback from your peers or instructors.
For the descriptive writing exercise, think about a place that holds special meaning for you. It could be a childhood home, a park, a beach, or any other location that has influenced you in a positive way. Use your five senses to describe the sights, sounds, smells, tastes, and textures associated with this place. By providing vivid and sensory details, you will create a clear picture in the reader's mind.

Voluntourism: An Opportunity Too Good to be True
A Speech to the Student Body of Evergreen High
[1] Picture this: It's Spring Break, and you fly off to some country where there's lush rainforests and beautiful, blue coastlines to explore. There's also people in need, so you decide to blend your vacation with volunteering. Volunteering as a tourist, or voluntourism, seems like a great way to explore new regions and help people at the same time. However, this "volunteer plus travel" experience can actually harm local communities. While many teens might view traveling and volunteering abroad as a worthwhile adventure, there are more genuine and effective ways to make a difference.
[2] Most would agree that volunteering in general is a worthy use of time. However, what if you found out the children you are "helping" are actually being kept in poor conditions so voluntourists will spend money to come to the local area? Dale Rolfe, a supporter of ethical voluntourism, explains the shocking reality that "Animal sanctuaries and orphanages are often manufactured for the voluntourist...encouraging a cycle of exploiting the very animals and children the volunteers are trying to help."
[3] Proponents of the "volunteer plus travel" experience also argue that traveling to new places builds character and is a valuable way to learn about different cultures. With voluntourism, however, participants often pursue experiences that are all about them. For example, they sign up to build a school for a gold star on their resume, but they have no real building skills and take jobs away from local construction workers (Schulten). Or, they arrive to teach English but instead take selfies with the locals. One world traveler and ethical voluntourist believes voluntourism "can perpetuate small minded views of the world by taking insulated, fake, and structured experiences and selling them as unabridged and eye opening" (Carlos). The voluntour experience is a mirage. The voluntourist's eyes are not opened to real life at the destination, and lasting change is not achieved.
[4] If you want a genuine experience where you can see a lasting impact, there are better options than voluntourism. You can volunteer in your local community. Give an hour every week to your town's animal rescue. Serve monthly dinners to the homeless. Be a reliable, positive influence on a child who needs a mentor. Studies show that volunteering and forming lasting relationships with those you help has a positive impact on your physical and emotional health. In fact, blood pressure is reduced, memory is improved, and rates of depression are reduced (Michaels).
[5] There is another reason to look into alternatives to voluntourism. Did you know the average "voluntour" travel package costs $3,400 (Rolfe)? Could that travel money be better spent? If the world's citizens are your passion, it could go to an international organization. If you care about education, your funds can be used to buy books for students in faraway lands. If you want villagers to have clean water, contribute funds to local efforts to dig wells. If you want to experience a different culture, travel to the country as a guest, and learn from the locals how you can best help them after you've returned home. But do not voluntour.
[6] In reality, there are better ways to make a difference. Voluntourism might appear to be an adventure that blends travel and helping others, but it does little except provide a costly, superficial experience that might actually do more harm than good. So, volunteer where you are most needed-at home, where you can stay to see the job through and form genuine, lasting relationships. Choose a beautiful coastline closer to home and send the travel money you saved to an international organization that will put it to good use. Whatever you do, don't turn someone else's hardship into your vacation.
What are two strategies the speaker uses to develop the point that voluntour opportunities are not legitimate ways to learn about other cultures? (5 points)
a
Expert testimony
b
Metaphor
c

d

e

How does the speaker's allusion to a gold star in paragraph three best serve the speech's objectives. The optimal response is: It highlights the superficial and self-serving rationale underlying volunteer activities.
What do you mean by a metaphor?elucidate a point or make a comparison by describing a thing or an action.
A metaphor is a figure of speech that employs figurative language to convey ideas or make comparisons to things or things that have happened. The fundamentals are as follows: A metaphor is a comparison of two things.
A metaphor is a figure of speech that explicitly refers to one topic while discussing another in order to make a particular rhetorical point. It might clarify concepts or point out unnoticed connections between two seemingly unrelated ideas.

How did Yun OK tame the tiger?
Answer:After she explained, the old man didn't give any advice to her directly. He just asked her to bring him the whisker of a living tiger. Even though You Ok was frightened, she decided to do it. For several months, through her patience and persistence, You Ok got the tiger's whisker successfully.
The folktale "The Tiger´s Whisker" originates from Korea, and it is used mostly as a child´s tale. It narrates the story of Yun Ok, whose husband has changed drastically from a loving, and gentle man, to an irrascible one, thanks to the wars. In desperation, Yun Ok, goes to a hermit and asks for a potion. The man tells her that in order to do so, she must bring a whisker from a live tiger. Yun Ok does as she is told, and patiently gains the trust of a tiger, and gets the needed whisker. In the end, she finds out that the lesson the hermit wanted her to learn was that to regain her husband, she needed to apply the same technique she used on the tiger, and not a potion. Given this background, the answers would be thus:
1. A folktale is defined precisely as: A story that is often passed along by word of mouth from one generation to another. This is the correct answer.
2. In this question, the answer is: Her husband has become very distant since he returned from war. This is what is narrated in the story as the reason for Yun Ok´s husband´s estrangement.
3. The correct answer here is: He laughs at Yun Ok´s idea because he thinks she is foolish to believe that solving the problem with her husband could be so simple. Though not directly stated, the hermit does laugh in a way when he says to Yun Ok that healing her husband with a potion is not like taking care of an ear infection. And he makes her feel somewhat foolish for her request. But she insists and he gives in.
4. The answer to this question is: She decides that reconnecting with her husband is worth the risk. This is stated in the story when Yun, although afraid, still continues persistently to go after the tiger, always keeping in mind that all is for the benefit of herself and her husband.
5. The answer here is: She learns that through patience, she can win her husband´s trust and heart like she earned the trust of the tiger. This is the lesson she learns when the hermit burns the whisker and makes her reflect on how she was able to get it from a wild tiger, saying that a man cannot be fiercer, or more difficult, than a tiger.
6. The answer here is: She is patient and demonstrates perseverance by spending six long months, slowly getting the tiger to trust her before she plucks out his whisker. This is exactly what she does in the story. She spends every day of those six months, carefully gaining the tiger´s trust, until he allows her near, and then allows her to take his whisker.
